The Expendables (2010) opened at number one at the U.S. box office with a first weekend gross of $35 million. This makes Sylvester Stallone the only person in Hollywood history to have starred in films that have opened atop the box office charts over five consecutive decades.

Sylvester (also known as Sly) Stallone is sitting back on top and living the good life!  It has not always been that way; he had to overcome a lot of adversity to get to where he is now.  Mostly through grit, determination and the unwillingness to settle for NO are the things that have led to his success.

He only stands 5’ 9 inches tall which is short for an actor in the Hollywood world.  He has a permanent droopy mouth caused by the doctor that delivered him; the doctor accidently severed a nerve in his face.  This resulted in paralyzing parts of his lip, the lower left side of his mouth and parts of his tongue and his chin.   That is what has given his trademark snarling look and his slurred speech. 

He tends to talk in a mono syllabic manner which you would think makes him undesirable for movie rolls, however, he has succeeded in an extraordinary fashion.

He is a baby boomer; born on July 6, 1946, in the charity ward in New York’s gritty Hell’s Kitchen.  His youth was pretty much in turmoil; he was expelled from fourteen schools before the age of thirteen because of his antisocial and violent behavior.  He ended up in a school for troubled kids and was voted “most likely to end up in the electric chair”.

He has had to fight his way to the top and the story behind the movie “Rocky” and the Rocky franchise is almost legend.

He has written a book called “Sly Moves” and he shares a lot of the stories about what happened behind the scene as well as his philosophy about life.  More impotently he lays out an exercise plan as well as an eating plan; he does not believe in diets but he does believe in healthy living.

In most countries we pretty much take our food supply for granted.  There are some things that you need to be aware of that the mainstream media in not reporting about the world food supply.  There are things happening that will have a major impact upon our way of life.  I am going to enlighten you and give you some advice about preparing for a potential problem.

Most Americans probably have enough food to survive for several weeks but if we have a situation where our food supply is disrupted we need to establish a plan to survive for an extended time.

We tend to ignore the possibility of a situation where our society collapses but it could happen.  Take some time and with a little research you will find just how fragile our way of life is.

Think about the chaos that is being caused by our world wide economic problems and this only exasperates that problems associated with food.  Prices will probably rocket out of reach of many of the poor. 

Prepare yourself and begin storing food for the potential catastrophe.  Start a program to do it a little at a time.  You need to store enough food and water to last at least six (6) months.

USDA Under Secretary Tonsager Announces Funding for Renewable Energy Projects; Highlights USDA Assistance to Mississippi

Eight Recipients Selected for Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) Grants.

Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Dallas Tonsager today announced the selection of eight recipients for grants to implement renewable energy and energy efficiency measures in Mississippi. Tonsager made the announcement during a visit to thestate. He was accompanied by Natural Resources and Environment Under Secretary Harris Sherman.

"These grants enable our farmers, ranchers and small business owners to develop renewable energy systems and improve energy efficiency to save thousands of kilowatt hours (kwh) of energy annually," Tonsager said. "This funding is an important part of the Obama Administration's plan to conserve natural resources, combat global warming, create moregreen jobs and lead us on the path to becoming an energy independent nation."

Funds are being provided through the Rural Energy for America (REAP)grant program, a 2008 Farm Bill initiative. For example, John and Franky Parker of Sunflower, Miss., have been selected for a $46,972grant to replace an outdated grain drying system with a new, efficient continuous flow grain dryer. The Parker brothers operate a 2,330-acre grain farm. On their farm, all of the harvested corn, rice and soybeans must go through the grain drying system. It is estimated that this energy-efficiency improvement will save the business 266,956 kwh of energy annually.

REAP offers funds for farmers, ranchers and rural businesses to purchase and install renewable energy systems and for energy-efficiency improvements. Grants can finance up to 25 percent of a project's cost,not to exceed $500,000 for renewables, $250,000 for efficiency. In all,USDA announced $213,800 in grants today to expand economic opportunities for Mississippi residents and businesses.

The funds announced today are part of USDA's annual budget and are not from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Funding of each grant is contingent upon the recipient meeting the conditions of the agreement. A complete listing of the loan and grant awards follows:

Mississippi Rural Energy for America Program Grant Recipients:

•Silent Shade Plantation: $16,204 grant; to install ahigh-efficiency grain dryer. Improvements are projected to save 154,751kwh of energy annually.
•Galen Gable: $5,292 grant; to install an oxygen monitoring system with computers to control electric aerators onsix catfish production ponds. Improvements are projected to save 98,623kwh of energy annually.
•Dunn Hill Farms: $8,618 grant; to install attic inlets and vent machines for energy efficiency improvements to 10poultry broiler grower houses. Improvements are projected to save189,160 kwh of energy annually.
•Failing Farms: $20,000 grant; to retrofit existing dryer systems with energy-efficient blower fans and motors. Improvements are projected to save 117,535 kwh of energy annually.
•TWGWM Pitts, LLC: $45,665 grant; to purchase a new energy-efficient continuous flow grain dryer. Improvements are projected to save 297,694 kwh of energy annually.
•Holly Ridge Partnership: $27,522 grant; to install an oxygen monitoring system with computers to control the electric aerators on 34 catfish production ponds. Improvements are projected to save 287,987 kwh of energy annually.
•Jubilee Farms Inc.: $43,527 grant; to install a new energy-efficient deep water well system. Improvements are projected tosave 328,332 kwh of energy annually.

•Parker Brothers II: $46,972grant; to purchase a new, efficient continuous flow grain dryer.Improvements are projected to save 266,956 kwh of energy annually.
In fiscal year 2009, the Rural Energy for America Program helped fund1,557 renewable energy projects in 50 states, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Western Pacific Islands. Spencer Pope Farms of Carthage, Miss., received a $20,000 grant to install solar panels onits poultry house. This renewable energy system allowed the farm to save 11,268 kwh of energy annually.

In addition to the projects announced today, USDA Rural Development has worked to create jobs, assists businesses and develop economic opportunity throughout Mississippi. Many projects have been aided using funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The following is a list of projects recently funded by USDA (Not all projects are ARRA).

USDA, through its Rural Development Mission area, administers and manages more than 40 housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs through a national network of 6,100 employees located in the nation's capital and 500 state and local offices. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities,businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Rural Development has an existing portfolio of nearly $140 billion in loans and loan guarantees.

The unemployment figures for the nation as a whole are very dismal.  Latest figures show the unemployment percentage to be close to ten (10) percent.  As it now stands; the chances of getting a good job are not very good.  I would like to show you an area that is hiring and needs good people.

Almost every part of the private sector is hurting.  There are very few companies that are looking to expand their workforce within the near future.  There are a myriad of issues that are preventing companies from being aggressive and wanting to expand during our troubled times.  The main problem is the uncertainty of what the future has in store for small private businesses.

The one area of our economy that is expanding is the government sector.  It looks as though the expansion will continue for a long time because of all the new programs that are being implemented.

The Washington Post recently reported that there was going to be a need for at least 270,000 new workers within the next three years.   This appears to be a conservative estimate because I have seen reports that estimate the need for new federal employees may be as high as 600,000.

No matter how you look at it; there are a lot of opportunities as a Federal Government employee.  If you need a job you need to look to the government.

Take a look at the comparison between the Federal Sector and the Private Sector.  You will definitely be paid better with the Federal Sector!!

 

If you compare the federal sector to the private sector you will find that the federal sector pays a lot better than the private sector.  The job security is also better in the federal sector so you need to definitely check it out.

The chances of being laid off with the Federal Sector is definitely lower!

The job market is extremely competitive today and jobs are hard to come by; especially if you are older.  There is a great opportunity that exists in the Security Guard Industry.  There is a huge demand for dependable workers even if you are older.

Think about it!  You see them everywhere; they are at shopping malls, banks, government buildings and offices.  The Security Guard business is growing; especially in hard economic times.  It seems that when times are tough some people turn to theft.

The thing is; the Security Guard industry is not really a dangerous industry.  Most of the guards you see are unarmed and are not there to enter into physical confrontations.   They are on the job to show the public that there are eyes and ears present.  If there is a need for the police or other emergencies the Guards have procedures that they are to follow.  The main one is to call 911.
